Raphaël De Coninck - Charles River Associates (CRA)

Dr. Raphaël De Coninck heads CRA's Brussels office, which he joined from the European Commission. Raphaël has extensive experience advising clients on antitrust and competition matters, including mergers and acquisitions, abuse of dominance, cartels, intellectual property, damages and valuation, as well as regulatory and compliance issues.  His experience spans a wide range of products and industries, including pharmaceuticals/life sciences, technology, consumer products, financial services, transport, telecoms, energy, mining, health care, media and entertainment.

Raphaël has provided expert economic advice in numerous high-profile mergers involving horizontal, vertical and conglomerate effects (including 20 “Phase 2” investigations) and in complex antitrust and cartel cases. He has advised clients in litigation and regulatory proceedings both in front of the European Commission and of national courts and authorities in e.g. Belgium, France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Spain.

As a member of the Chief Economist Team at DG Competition, Raphaël was the lead economic contributor to the European Commission’s Practical Guide on the Quantification of Antitrust Damages.  He also contributed to the European Commission’s Best Practices for Economic Submissions and Data Collection in Merger and Antitrust cases.

Raphaël received a PhD in economics from the University of Chicago, and degrees in law and in economics from the University of Liège. He previously lectured on law and economics in the Department of Economics at the University of Chicago, held an academic position at New York University School of Law, and is currently teaching on competition policy at the Free University of Brussels (ULB).
